Quench Tank Chillers

· Quench tanks are somewhat different because we are immersing a solid into the water to cool it down.  The solid could be steel, aluminum, stainless steel etc.  In this case we would figure in the weight and sp ht of the steel to figure out capacity “BTU”.

· Batches are sometimes heavy in particulate therefore an immersed coil or special cleanable free flow plate and frame heat exchanger is used.  In this case a closed loop recirculating glycol chiller is needed to pump through the heat exchanger.  If an air cooled glycol chiller is used one can install the chiller outside and reject the heat outside so it doesn’t build up in the manufacturing plant.  One can install the chiller inside and exhaust the heat outside.  In this case the processor can control the rejected heat by utilizing it in the winter for heating.
